The APAB publishes the English translation of its report on quality culture in Austrian PIE-audit firms
The APAB (Austrian Audit Oversight Authority) has published the English translation of its final report on the 2024/2025 follow-up survey regarding the quality culture in Austrian audit firms that conduct statutory audits of public interest entities (PIEs). Based on a specially developed maturity model, the report analyzes the implementation of the requirements of the International Standard on Quality Management 1 (ISQM 1) as well as the organizational framework conditions for a quality-oriented audit culture.
The results show remarkable improvements in the perceived quality culture compared to the initial survey conducted in 2020/2021. It became evident that improvements were achieved across all areas. Furthermore, the survey revealed that the audited firms generally have established quality management systems in place. At the same time, the report identifies potential for development, particularly regarding systemic elements of quality management, such as in the areas of governance, risk assessment, as well as monitoring and remediation processes. With the publication of this report, the APAB aims to create transparency regarding the state of development of the quality culture in the Austrian PIE audit market and to contribute to the further strengthening of audit quality.
